You could spend tons of money at the store on top-notch dog food brands or make your dog food easily at home. All you need is a few good recipes to get you started.

Read on to discover 7 recipes for cooking healthy dog food at home.

Slow Cooked Chicken and Veggies

Chicken and veggies give balanced nutrients and flavor, making it a meal many know and love. Here is a good starting point for a recipe.

  • Boneless Chicken (2lbs)
  • Apples (1-2)
  • Sliced Carrots (2)
  • Frozen Peas (2 cans)
  • Frozen Green Beans (2)
  • Cubed Sweet Potato (1)
  • Olive Oil (2 tbsp)

Add the ingredients to a slow cooker for about eight hours. Be sure to add the peas about 30 minutes before the eight hours is complete for optimal texture. Once this process is finished, drain the liquid, mash up the food, and separate it into portions.

Dog Chili

  • Ground Beef (1lb)
  • Carrots (4)
  • Corn (1 can)
  • Tomato Paste (1 can)

From here, it is just like any other chili dish. Cook the beef in a frying pan, add everything but the broth, and cook for about six minutes. Once it is ready, throw the cooked mixture and beef broth into a baking dish and bake at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes.

The Standard Balanced Meal

  • Shredded Carrots (2)
  • Chopped Spinach (3 cups)
  • Shredded Zucchini (1)
